The Department of Citywide Administrative Services, NYC is hiring!
New Posting Apply for Fire Protection Inspector Exam

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) is accepting applications for an exam leading to Fire Protection Inspector positions at the NYC Fire Department.

There is a $40 application fee for the exam. The deadline to apply is August 24, 2010.

Applicants for the exam must have prior work experience in a related field, or qualifying college study. Final exam scores will be based on a rating of education and work experience as well as performance on a multiple-choice test. The current minimum salary is $39,401 per year.

More about Fire Protection Inspectors

Fire Protection Inspectors visit and inspect businesses, buildings and other facilities to reduce or eliminate fire hazards.

The stated qualifications for the job include three years of qualifying experience installing, operating or inspecting fire suppression equipment or related systems, or an equivalent in fire safety enforcement or Fire Safety Director experience, or college study or apprenticeship in a related skilled trade. Middletown Township Public Library is seeking a dynamic, energetic, creative, and technologically savvy individual to perform reference research duties, collection development, reader's advisory service, preparation
of statistical reports, and participation in and preparation of workshops and training for staff and public.

In addition, this position includes responsibilities to continue the library's program services to adult audiences, which may include art exhibits, musical programs, discussion groups and art/crafts activities. The Librarian will develop a working relationship with a large number of artists, performers, local organizations and volunteers, some of which might be the source of cultural programs offered by the library. This Librarian will develop and use evaluative criteria for all programs and provide narrative and statistical analysis of programs. Organizational skills are necessary.

Position available September 1, 2010. Salary $52,444. New Jersey Civil Service Commission Job Description 03406. M.L.S. and NJ Professional Librarian's Certificate required. This is a full-time 35-hour week position requiring flexible hours. Applicant must be available to work evenings and weekend hours.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT / CIRCULATION CLERK (Part-Time)

Reports to: Coordinator of LRC

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalency required.
Relevant library experience desirable.

Required Competencies:
Familiarity with the Library's automated system.
Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patrons.

Physical Demands:
Ability to read titles on-shelves and print on computer screens.
Ability to climb stairs

Essential Functions:
Responsible for circulation of materials to patrons both check-in and check-out.
Knowledge of how to put items in order alphabetically and numerically.
Understanding of the different categories and collections of library materials.
Knowledge of basic operation of desktop computer and Windows operating system.
Ability to deal cordially and efficiently with library patrons, and to interpret and communicate library policies and procedures clearly to students and faculty. Ability to understand the technology in use at the library and to troubleshoot simple problems with equipment and systems. Responsible for proctoring exams.

18-20 hours per week which include day and evening hours

Dress is "office casual" employees should wear shoes with closed toes and adequate support to allow for toe protection and comfortable walking and standing during a shift of 4-6 hours
